What does that tell you? They’re just saying that they don’t recommend it “currently”. If the bird flu avian influenza A (H5N1) virus becomes a pandemic and the government decides to ask people to get some of the basic gear we have above in the bird flu preparedness kit, almost immediately you won't be able to get it. As a company we try to stock as much as we can, but so many times during hurricane season or for many other reasons, we have a huge run on our products and we and our suppliers run out. 3M is a huge company, but could only produce so many extra masks if the demand increased.

No. Despite an advance warning that has lasted almost two years, the world is ill-prepared to defend itself during a pandemic. WHO has urged all countries to develop preparedness plans, but only around 40 have done so. WHO has further urged countries with adequate resources to stockpile antiviral drugs nationally for use at the start of a pandemic. Around 30 countries are purchasing large quantities of these drugs, but the manufacturer has no capacity to fill these orders immediately. On present trends, most developing countries will have no access to vaccines and antiviral drugs throughout the duration of a pandemic."
There seems to be no preparations whatsoever to prevent it if it starts to spread from person to person.
