Item Description
This is a very good start to a bird flu kit that we put together with all the avian influenza A (H5N1) virus pandemic information going around. Here at CampingSurvival.com we live preparedness. We don't just talk about preparedness. We get many calls and emails simply looking for advice and information. We have seen an increase in questions and concerns about bird flu. The bird flu has been in the news for quite some time, but we haven’t put our effort into producing a bird flu preparedness kit until now. While we are a survival and preparedness company, we know you can’t prepare for everything. However, if you prepare for some things and establish a mindset of preparedness, you’ll generally be better off that the average person. Therefore we put this bird flu survival kit together with what would be the basics at a great price.

Basic Bird Flu Kit The CDC web site has the following information. “Should I wear a surgical mask to prevent exposure to avian influenza? Currently, wearing a mask is not recommended for routine use (e.g., in public) for preventing influenza exposure. In the United States, disposable surgical and procedure masks have been widely used in health-care settings to prevent exposure to respiratory infections, but the masks have not been used commonly in community settings, such as schools, businesses, and public gatherings.”

What does that tell you? They’re just saying that they don’t recommend it “currently”. It seems pretty clear to us that this is another sitution where preparedness minded people will be ready and everyone else would have trouble getting what they need when the government tells them they need it. So if you don't get this bird flu preparedness kit, you should put your own together.

This reminds us of the new customers that call us as the hurricane is one day from landing in their area and everything is gone from the stores and even the large home centers are out of wood to board up doors and windows. All these new customers pay UPS $80.00 to next day air one of our coleman stoves so they can feed their family. We're grateful for the new customers and hope they stay customers for years to come, but that isn't exactly preparedness.

Here are a few things that we believe will be good to have on hand in a bird flu preparedness kit before the bird flu becomes a pandemic. We also sell each of the items individually so you can buy them in any quantity that you want, but here’s a start.

This bird flu preparedness kit includes the following items.
  • 3M 8210 N95 Particulate Respirator Masks (20 pack)
  • GelFast Personal hand Hygiene Kit. Hand Sanitizer and refill cartridge
  • Bath Wet Wipes. No rinse wipes
  • Colloidal Silver 8 oz. bottle 10 ppm
  • 5 pair of powder free, latex examination gloves

Besides getting this bird flu preparedness kit as an emergency kit, all the items have practical use as well. Sometimes preparedness minded people get criticized for overdoing it or hoarding and many other types of criticisms. However, keep in mind that every time there is a disaster such as a hurricane, the stores run out of certain things very quickly. Generators, food, propane, wood for boarding up doors, camping gear etc. If you plan ahead and have the gear before you need it, you're doing the opposite of hoarding. Hoarding puts stress on the system. When there is a snow storm, people run out and buy up all the milk and bread for example. However, if you normally have a little extra of these items ahead of time, you don't put stress on the system and take away from others. It's the same with preparedness and survival kits like this bird flu preparedness kit.

Here are some other things you might want to get in your bird flu preparedness kit as well. As always, we pass on information as best as we know. It is your responsibility to educate yourself and learn how to take care of your family in a difficult situation.
  • Family preparedness plan video
  • Coghlan's Three Piece Rain Gear Suit
  • Common household bleach. Get the non scented type and it can be used for water purification or to make a great cleaning agent by mixing it with water.
  • Our Home page has some popular and important items for emergency preparedness as well.

If the bird flu avian influenza A (H5N1) virus becomes a pandemic and the government decides to ask people to get some of the basic gear we have above in the bird flu preparedness kit, almost immediately you won't be able to get it. As a company we try to stock as much as we can, but so many times during hurricane season or for many other reasons, we have a huge run on our products and we and our suppliers run out. 3M is a huge company, but could only produce so many extra masks if the demand increased.

  • As noted on the CDC's web site "Is the world adequately prepared?

No. Despite an advance warning that has lasted almost two years, the world is ill-prepared to defend itself during a pandemic. WHO has urged all countries to develop preparedness plans, but only around 40 have done so. WHO has further urged countries with adequate resources to stockpile antiviral drugs nationally for use at the start of a pandemic. Around 30 countries are purchasing large quantities of these drugs, but the manufacturer has no capacity to fill these orders immediately. On present trends, most developing countries will have no access to vaccines and antiviral drugs throughout the duration of a pandemic."

There seems to be no preparations whatsoever to prevent it if it starts to spread from person to person. As always, our idea of preparedness is to take some time to think about what your needs will be in any type of a disaster situation and remember, CampingSurvival.com is not about the END OF THE WORLD - It's not about surviving a hypothetical PLANE CRASH - It's about the SATISFACTION YOU GET knowing you can take care of yourself and/or your family in ANY SITUATION, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!

We highly recommend that you check out the CDC It has a lot of really interesting information. We also suggest you check out pandemicflu.gov and look around for more information. There is a lot of good iformation out there and the best way to be able to take care of yourself and your family in a disater situation is with knowledge!
