Item Description
Coghlans Lantern Lighter attaches to most popular makes of gas lanterns and uses ordinary lighter flints. Lantern Lighter
  • Light lantern in wind or rain
  • Attaches to most gas lanterns
This lighter can be used on most instant lighting gasoline, propane or butane lanterns. Manufacturers of these lanterns are continually adding new models so it is difficult to give exact installation instructions to cover the numerous lanterns on the market. The following is a guide as to how to install the lighter on any lantern.

Always install so lighter can be pushed up towards mantles when lighting and drawn away from mantles when lantern is burning.

INSTALLATION WITHOUT BRACKET
On some older models of Coleman double mantle lanterns such as 220 and 228 series, the lighter can be installed through match hole without bracket. The two hex nuts will hold the lighter firmly on frame of lantern and allow lighter to push freely in and out through match hole.

INSTALLATION WITH BRACKET
On some older models of Coleman single mantle lanterns such as 200 series, the bracket can be used. Loosen hex nuts and rotate flint magazines section 90 degrees so when lighter is installed on lantern the flint magazine points towards globe rather than base of lantern. Tighten hex nuts. attach bracket with lighter to center threaded post of lantern in a manner that lighter will move up and down freely through match hole. It may be necessary to bend bracket slightly on some models of lanterns.

IMPORTANT
Many of the new models of instant lighting gasoline lanterns and most models of propane lanterns will not allow the lighter to be installed using either of the above instructions. It will be necessary to find a location on lantern that allows the lighter to be mounted with or without bracket and in many instances it will be necessary to attach bracket to lantern frame by drilling a small hole in frame and attaching bracket to frame with a self-tapping screw. On some lanterns a new match hole may have been drilled in lantern frame. Wherever you locate lighter on your lantern, make sure it will move up and down through match hole in a way that flint spark will be close to mantles when igniting lantern.

TO OPERATE LIGHTER
Push ligher up towards mantle. Follow manufacturers instructions before lighting lantern. Rolling thumb on knurled knob generates sparks on striker wheel. These sparks will instantly ignite lantern (lantern off) push up on lighter to prevent damage.

To prevent damage to lighter DO NOT operate lantern when there is a hole in the mantle.

Carry spare flint inside knurled knob of lighter. Uses ordinary flints or ask for Coghlan's Flints.
