The handle of the Trail Blazer Ergo Hatchet is made from glass reinforced nylon so its extremely strong and very light, whats more the hatchet head is permanently embedded within the nylon and glass structure so it'll never detach. That's typically a chronic fault with hatchets (unless they're one piece steel hatchets and those are heavy). Eventually, the head will loosen and come off -no more with lightweight Ergo Hatchet. The hatchet is 13 inches (33 cm. ) long, and the handle angles inward about 15 degrees to gain striking leverage, optimizing wrist position and reducing shoulder / arm fatigue. The grip has a roughed finger area, and the flared 2. 5 inch (5.5 cm) handle butt has a generous opening for hanging the hatchet on a hook or nail in the workshop.
The hatchet head is 5.25 inches (14 cm.)long and made from high carbon, stainless steel for longer edge retention. The blade is 3.5 inches (9 cm.)long x 2.75 inches ( 7cm.) high and the nearly razor sharp edge is honed to a depth of .25 inch (.5 cm). Behind the blade there's a 2.5 inch (6 cm)wedge-shaped area of glass reinforced nylon with a slightly protruding, serrated steel butt. All this at only 17.3 oz (450 grams) in weight !
Included too, is a durable, sheath made from rugged cordura fabric and lined with solid plastic panels to keep the hatchet from cutting through. Seams of the sheath are heavily stitched and reinforced at stress points with rivets and the closure is 5inches (13 cm.) of velcro. Has two 2.5 inch (6 cm) rugged belt loops on rear of the sheath.
